It’s composed of three main units: the transformer, the rectifier, and the filter. The transformer changes the voltage from the main power grid into lower or higher levels suitable for the target device. The rectifier then changes the AC (alternating current) from the transformer into DC (direct current). Finally, the filter ensures a stable and smooth current is delivered.

The circuit diagram will show the parts of the power supply connected to the rest of the system. For example, the output of the rectifier is connected to the input of the filter. To understand what is connected to what, you need to trace each wire starting from its source. This can be done by following the flow of current. The arrows located in the circuit diagrams tell you the direction of current flow.

The parts of the power supply also need to be wired correctly in order to function properly. Before connecting any wires to components, it’s important to make sure you know exactly where to connect them. This minimizes the likelihood of blowing a fuse or damaging other components.

Ultimately, a circuit diagram provides a valuable resource for anyone who needs to understand the workings of an electrical system. With an understanding of the symbols used on a diagram and the basics of how power supplies are wired, you can decipher even the most complicated diagrams with ease.
