A line then runs from the box to the motor's power supply, providing the necessary voltage to the motor. There is also a switch or relay that controls the flow of electricity from the power supply to the box and then to the motor.

In order for a forward and reverse motor starter to work, this switch must be correctly configured. When the switch is in the “on” position, current will flow from the power supply to the box and then to the motor, turning it in the forward direction. When the switch is in the “off” position, no current will flow, and the motor will remain stationary. To make the motor go in reverse, the switch must be flipped to the “reverse” position, which will send current flowing in the opposite direction, causing the motor to rotate in the opposite direction.

Understanding the wiring diagram of a forward and reverse motor starter isn't difficult, once you know the basics. Just remember that the arrows indicate the direction of the motor and that the switch controls the flow of the current between the power supply and the motor.
