This is because they are designed to make use of the law of conservation of energy by converting AC into DC.

The components of an SMPS diagram circuit include a transformer, switch, diode bridge, pass transistor, and capacitor. The transformer helps reduce the voltage and isolate the circuit from other components, while the switch turns the device on or off. The diode bridge converts AC to DC, while the pass transistor reduces the voltage output as needed. Finally, the capacitor helps store energy and keep the voltage output stable.

The design of an SMPS diagram circuit varies depending on the specific application. For example, a laptop power adapter contains an inductor while a multiple output power adapter may contain a flyback transformer or two isolated buck converters. It’s important to note the difference between linear and switching power supplies, however. Linear power supplies are much more efficient than switching power supplies, though they may not have the same level of control over line voltage.

Understanding how an SMPS diagram circuit works is key for any electronics enthusiast. With its efficiency and versatility, it’s no surprise that it’s one of the most popular power supplies for all types of applications.
