Draw A Schematic Diagram Of Double Circulation In Human Beings And Explain Why Is It So Called

By | April 7, 2022

The double circulation of blood in human beings is a term with an interesting history. Its origins can be traced back nearly three thousand years ago, to the ancient Greeks who recognized that the venous system in humans was distinct from that of other animals. As science advanced throughout the centuries, scientists continued to explore the concept of this double circulation, and eventually discovered that it was responsible for providing oxygen to our cells and organs.

The double circulation of blood is so called because it involves a circuit of two loops. The systemic loop begins in the left ventricle of the heart, where the oxygenated blood is pumped out to the body via the arteries. This oxygen rich blood then moves through the capillaries, where oxygen and other important nutrients are exchanged with the cells and tissues in the body. Once oxygen has been depleted, the deoxygenated blood is then returned to the right side of the heart via the veins. This completes the first “circuit” of the double circulation.

The second loop is known as the pulmonary circulation. It begins in the right ventricle of the heart, where the deoxygenated blood is sent to the lungs for oxygenation. Once the blood has been re-oxygenated, it is then sent back to the left ventricle of the heart and thus back to the systemic circulation, completing the second “circuit”.

The double circulation of blood is essential for life as it ensures that our cells and organs receive the oxygen and other nutrients they need to function properly. Without this double circulation system, the oxygen levels in our bodies would quickly be depleted, leading to difficulty breathing and ultimately death.

Understanding the double circulation of blood is an important part of learning human anatomy. It is an intricate system that allows us to remain healthy and vibrant, and for this reason, it is sometimes referred to as our “life support system.” Without it, we would not be able to survive.
