Unlike packet switching, circuit switching performs the resource-intensive connection setup process before data transmission takes place. This helps in creating a dedicated physical path, resulting in improved speed and latency. However, it can also lead to certain issues such as increased network congestion due to dedicated resources being locked while the connection is active.
Overall, circuit switching is an important telecommunications technology, enabling dedicated communication paths between two nodes. It is used extensively in networking applications such as telephony and video streaming.
